Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct warehouse is tipped to be sold to a Malaysian fund for £120m
Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct warehouse is said to be being bought by a Malaysian fund
Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct warehouse – which became notorious when working conditions there were exposed – is being bought by a Malaysian fund, it is claimed.
The billionaire is selling the site in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, for £120 million, although his firm will stay on as a tenant for 15 years.
It is understood the buyer will be the Malaysian Employees Provident Fund, which looks after the pensions of 7 million workers.
Ashley was slammed over poor conditions for workers at the facility, with MPs on the Business Select Committee likening it to a ‘Victorian workhouse’ in 2016.
The Malaysian fund also part-owns the £9 billion Battersea Power Station redevelopment in south London.
